Popular Occulture in Britain 1875-1947

This project investigates the influence of occult beliefs, themes, and figures on British popular culture between 1875-1947.

It will run three themed workshops at which members of the network— including scholars, artists, curators, librarians, and private archive holders— will meet to discuss how and why occult ideas penetrated mass culture in the period of our study, paying specific attention to their manifestation in popular fiction and entertainments, journalism, and political movements. We will also organise occult archive and site tours, along with exhibitions of special collection material. The workshops are free and open to the public.
