About the short courses

  • These courses offer small-group historical themed visits to central and eastern Scotland led by an academic guide
  • For our longer courses we combine fascinating day visits with outstanding accommodation and culinary experiences
  • Our courses are designed to be informative and enjoyable. They incorporate cutting edge scholarship and research in the field of Scottish History, combined with a relaxed atmosphere. Plenty of time is allowed to explore each site with the guide and independently, and travel is kept to a minimum
  • Itinerary includes less well-known and off the beaten track sites, handpicked for their historical relevance, as well as better known spectacular locations such as Stirling Castle
  • Stirling location provides excellent access to Edinburgh and Glasgow airports and other travel hubs, as well an ideal base for potential for exploring central Scotland

Inchmahome Priory

Medieval Scotland

This five day course will retrace the steps of St Margaret, William Wallace, Robert the Bruce and the Stewart Kings. The course will be complemented by outstanding gourmet food and drink experiences.

Stirling Castle interior

Stewart Scotland

This five day course retraces the steps of Scotland’s Renaissance monarchs including James IV, Mary, Queen of Scots and James VI, and explores the kingdom ruled over by the Stewart Dynasty from 1371 to the Union of the Crowns in 1603. The course also includes outstanding gourmet food and drink experiences.
