Born in York in 1984, Philip Gurrey completed his undergraduate degree in Painting and Printmaking from the Glasgow School of Art in 2007 and went on to complete his Masters of Letters Degree with distinction in 2012. He was awarded the PULSE prize in New York in 2008 given to emerging artists of distinction. His work has been included in exhibitions at the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh, the Mark Moore Gallery in Los Angeles and the Pippy Houldsworth Gallery in London. He has work in the Fondation Francès collection in Senlis, France and the Mercer Art Gallery collection in Harrogate. More recently he has exhibited at the Dr Guislain Museum in Ghent, Belgium and as part of Glasgow International Arts Festival. Philip also works as a visiting lecturer and tutor.
There are two works by Philip Gurrey in the Art Collection, both of which were kindly donated by the artist, following his 2017 exhibition 'Under-Mined' held at the Macrobert Arts Centre on campus.
