Born in Poznan, Poland in 1925, Leon Piesowocki is half Polish, half German. After being drafted into the German army, he later managed to change sides and ended up in Italy in 1945. Some months after the end of the war, he obtained a scholarship and a place at the Academy of Rome. A year later he received a scholarship to continue his studies in London. He then worked as a commercial artist, and after 1968, his main occupation was printmaking using different techniques for which he was awarded several prizes at various international Print Biennales. He has been living in Southern France since 1976.
