Portrait of Lord Balfour of Burleigh
(Oil on canvas, 2000)

Juliet Wood was educated at St Albans School of Art and the Slade School of Fine Art, then went on to teach, latterly at Swindon School of Art and Design for eighteen years. Since 1995 she has concentrated on portraiture, and has exhibited widely.

Lord Balfour of Burleigh was Chancellor 1988-1998. The artist says:' I painted Robert Balfour in his engineer’s overall, with working tools at hand. This was more expressive of his lively and individual character than the wearing of a gown'. The gown is shown hanging in the background.

The artist has painted three portraits for the University, all of which are hanging in the Court Room Building Gallery.
