Born in Kirkintilloch in 1936, Jack Knox studied at Glasgow School of Art (1953-7). He was a member of the Young Glasgow Group (founded by James Morrison, Anda Paterson and James Spence in 1957) and attended the AndrĂ© Lhote Atelier, Paris, in 1958. He taught at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, and was appointed Head of Drawing and Painting, Glasgow School of Art, (1981-1992). He won numerous awards and exhibited widely.
