Ivor Davies is a Welsh artist born in Treharris, in 1935. He studied at Cardiff and Swansea Colleges of Art (1952-1957) and then at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland (1959-61). He taught at the University of Wales and the University of Edinburgh (where he also completed a PhD on the Russian avant-garde). Davies retired from teaching in 1988. He was elected Vice President of the Royal Cambrian Academy of Art in 1995 and is a member of The Welsh Group. 
This work was purchased from the artist's one man show at the Talbot Rice Gallery, Edinburgh University in 1972.
