Maria
(Print, 1988)

Born in Copenhagen in 1923, Elsa Nielsen was the grand-daughter of Danish painter Laurits Tuxen, and as a child spent summers at the famous artist's colony of Skagen in northern Jutland. After graduating from art studies in 1947 she became a graphic artist and a member of the Corner artists group.

This and another print by this artist were purchased by the Collection in 1990. They are typical of her few recurring motifs which also included glassware, and, above all, withered flowers.
