Born in Glasgow in 1961, Calum Colvin studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee, graduating with a Diploma in Sculpture, and following this with an MA Photography at the Royal College of Art, London.
Calum Colvin says of his work that it exists 'on the boundaries of painting, photography, sculpture and electronic imaging'. It consists of elaborately constructed scenarios combining techniques of painting, sculpture and lighting to create complex narrative tableau which are photographed and exhibited as colour photographic prints. He has also more recently brought computer manipulation into this mix.
