Born in Grangemouth, Alan Davie studied at the Edinburgh College of Art. After war service and travel, his first solo exhibition was held in London in 1950 and was soon followed by international success. In addition to his artistic talents he was also an accomplished musician. At the age of 80, he embarked upon a major campaign of screenprinting, working with the master printmaker Kip Gresham at Gresham Studio, near Cambridge. Grangemouth Image was created by Davie to mark his 90th birthday. There are two more prints by Davie in the collection.
