Wilhelmina Barns-Graham (1912–2004)

Celebration at 90
(Screenprint, 2002)

Born in St Andrews, Wilhelmina Barns-Graham attended Edinburgh College of Art 1932-7, and moved to St Ives in the 1940s where she became friends with Ben Nicholson and Barbara Hepworth. From 1960, she divided her time between St Andrews and St Ives.

Barns-Graham was an eminent abstract artist and her paintings can be found in public collections throughout the UK. It wasn’t until her later life that she took up an interest in printmaking, particularly focussing on the art form from 1991. This image is one of four prints gifted to the Collection by the Barns-Graham Trust.
