'Coming as I do from Berlin, the University of Stirling is perhaps smaller than some universities at home in Germany. However, I soon found that Stirling University is characterised by superb technical facilities and highly qualified teaching staff. The majority of lecturers and professors working in the Department of Applied Social Science are active researchers. Therefore the teaching is always related to practical issues and includes a lot of first-hand experience.
What I particularly like about studying here is the close relationship between students and teachers. Apart from regular student-staff meetings there are a lot of other meetings where problems can be discussed and students can bring up ideas and suggestions to improve the teaching and learning conditions for everybody.
Stirling itself is quite beautiful. Much of Scotland’s history was shaped in Stirling and it is visible as you walk through the streets or round the castle. There are also different clubs and pubs in the centre with special student nights and for a change you can always take a train to Glasgow or Edinburgh, which takes about 45 minutes. Stirling is a great University, with a lovely campus, places for socialising and beautiful environmental surroundings. With all this on hand, I think Stirling is an ideal place for study.'
