2017: A summer to remember

Make your summer a memorable one! Summer 2017 will be an exciting time in Scotland. There are plenty of unique and historically significant events taking place this summer ranging Edinburgh Fringe Festival to the traditional Military Tattoo. This year has been coined the ‘Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design’ so the summer will be filled with chances to celebrate Scotland's creative industries.

Royal Highland Show

Scotland’s largest music festival will be hosted in the heart of Perthshire at Strathallan Castle. Previous headlining acts have included Pharrell Williams, Ed Sheeran, Snoop Dogg, The Killers and Nicki Minaj. *To be confirmed.

2017 Open Golf Championship

16 – 23 July (block 2)

Royal Birkdale will host the 146th year of the Open. Students interested in our module, Sports Management & Culture: A European Perspective (ISS9SM) should note this special event.

Wickerman Festival

21 – 22 July (block 2)

A unique music festival that has been dubbed ‘Scotland’s Alternative Music Festival’ will run for its 15th year. Located in the Scottish Borders, this festival has included acts such as Amy MacDonald, Primal Scream and the Proclaimers.

World-famous Edinburgh festivals

A range of art festivals are held in Edinburgh each year that cover traditional military displays, International film, literature, art, theatre, dance, and music. Students interested in our modules Photographing the Urban (ISSU9PU) and Scotland on the Screen (ISSU9SS) in particular should look out for amazing shows!
