International Sports Scholarship Programme

The University of Stirling provides the ideal environment for talented athletes to develop and flourish in their chosen sport, providing expert support and a comprehensive collection of world-class facilities set on our scenic campus.

Our International Sports Scholarship Programme is one of the largest high performance sports programmes in the UK and has supported more than 700 student athletes since its inception in 1981, sending athletes to Olympic, World and Commonwealth Games.

Craig Gowans Football Scholarships

The University of Stirling has joined with Falkirk FC to offer football scholarships. This unique initiative sees talented young footballers combine their sport with a university degree.

Scholarship players will benefit from up to £4,000 a year throughout their degree, which will cover the cost of essential requirements including accommodation and equipment. Players receive professional coaching and compete in the East of Scotland Premier Division.

Applying for a Football Scholarship

To be considered for a scholarship award, applicants must meet the normal entry requirements to study at the University of Stirling and hold, or be in the process of applying for, a place on a degree programme. They will have to demonstrate footballing ability and a commitment to improve, and have the appropriate work ethic. Sports scholarship application forms are available from the School of Sport.

Football scholarships

Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation Scholarships

In response to the 11 March 2011 earthquake and tsunami in the north east of Japan, the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation, in partnership with the British Council in Japan, has launched a £250,000 scholarship fund to support Japanese students in the Tohoku region. The aim of this initiative is to support post-secondary level students from any part of Tohoku, in particular those areas most affected by the recent events (Miyagi, Fukushima and Iwate prefectures) seeking to study for a period at an educational institution in the United Kingdom. Applications will also be considered from students from the Tohoku region who are currently studying in the UK but who require financial support to continue their studies.

The application deadline is the 15 June 2012.

BUTEX Scholarship for International Students

Each year BUTEX awards a number of scholarships to students studying abroad for either a semester or for a whole academic year.

The value of each scholarship is £500 and will be paid to the winners once they have arrived and registered at their host university.

R. Harper Brown Scholarship

The CHICAGO SCOTS are proud pleased to sponsor this scholarship program which honours the late R. Harper Brown: Society governor, Clansman of the Year and co-chair of the Kith & Kin Campaign.

The purpose of the Scholarship Fund is to assist in defraying the cost of an American (US) student's study at a university in Scotland.

US Student Loans

The University of Stirling is eligible to certify loan applications for the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP).

UK 9/11 Scholarships Fund

The UK 9/11 Scholarships Fund seeks to award scholarships to children or dependants of victims of the September 11 attacks on the USA, or other subsequent terrorist tragedy, for study at higher or further education institutions in the UK. Saltire Scholarships

Scotland's Saltire Scholarships (SSS) is a substantial programme of scholarships, offered on a matched funding basis between the Government and Scottish Higher Education Institutions. Santander MBA Scholarship

Applicants must hold, or expect to obtain an offer or an unconditional offer of a place to study the Stirling MBA.

Number of awards: 4 awards available for courses commencing in 2013

Value:  £5000 per annum for 1 year.

Deadline:  The closing date for receipt of scholarship applications is 12 June 2013

Santander Behavioural Science Scholarship

Level: Postgraduate (Taught)

Applicants must hold, or expect to obtain an offer or an unconditional offer of a place to study the MSc Behavioural Science Scholarship.

Number of awards: 2 awards available for courses commencing in 2013

Value:  £5000 per annum for 1 year.

Deadline:  The closing date for receipt of scholarship applications is 12 June 2013

Mobility Scholarships

As part of the University’s internationalisation strategy to build long term links overseas, Santander Universities are kindly supporting a number of mobility grants to allow students to travel overseas to further their study/research.

Eligibility

These mobility scholarships are to be awarded to students to study/research overseas. They may be used to support activity in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, Puerto Rico or Uruguay, China, Germany, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, Spain, USA, Venezuela in this instance.

  • The study / research activity funded must be completed no later than end of academic year 2013-14
  • Recipients will be required to submit a short impact report within an agreed time frame
  • Applicants should include a summary of the origin, destination and purpose of travel
  • If more applications are received than there are grants available, selection will be made on the basis of those that best strengthen and support the development of strategic institutional partnerships in the region

Please note that all applications must receive final sign off by the Head of School or Head of Division at the University of Stirling.
