Disabled Students’ Allowance

If you have a disability or health condition, including mental health difficulties and specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia or dyspraxia, you may be entitled to additional financial assistance through the Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA). This financial allowance will be used to cover extra costs or expenses that arise during your studies.

The DSA is divided into three categories:

  • Basic Allowance (e.g. photocopying costs, special dietary requirements, small items of equipment)
  • Large Items of Equipment Allowance (e.g. IT equipment, ergonomic furniture)
  • Non-Medical Personal Help Allowance (e.g. the costs of a note taker, interpreter, proof reader)

How to apply for Disabled Students Allowance

First-time applicants

You can apply for DSA support as soon as you have a conditional or unconditional offer to study at the University of Stirling, or at any time during your studies.

If you’re applying for DSA for the first time, you should make an appointment to speak to a member of the Accessibility and Inclusion team. During your meeting we’ll assess your needs and help guide you through the next steps in the DSA application process.

To make an appointment and find out more about DSA, please get in touch

Repeat DSA applications

If you’ve already had DSA support and are applying again, you can download the appropriate form from the SAAS website or pick it up from the Student Services Hub. Don’t forget to have your form approved by an Accessibility and Inclusion Adviser before sending it to the SAAS.

Closing dates

Students funded by SAAS must apply before 31st March each year.
