The Health and Exercise Sciences Research Group address fundamental and applied research questions across the spectrum of health and exercise through an integrated research programme.
Recent investments in facilities and personnel have given the group a broad strength in depth allowing for the investigation of a wide range of integrative research questions ranging from molecular mechanisms through to the whole body level, in both in vivo and ex vivo situations.
The interests and expertise encompass sport and exercise performance, physical activity and behaviour, neuromuscular control, whole body metabolism and nutrition, tissue metabolism, molecular control mechanisms, genetics and epigenetics.
Importantly, the group approaches these questions with the view of optimising performance or health across all sections of the population: elite and club level athletes, the general population, aging adults and clinical and subclinical populations. The group is ideally placed to answer the key current future questions in health and exercise sciences.
