Football scholarships

We are officially Scotland's University Sporting Excellence in recognition of our contribution to Scottish sport. We’re renowned for our outstanding contributions to world sport and for giving young talent opportunities to fulfil their potential.  

Football scholarships provide you with a fantastic package of training, competition and funding support to fit in alongside academic studies. At Stirling we bring together high performance coaches, excellent facilities, innovative sport science, strength and conditioning and physiotherapy support and performance mentoring.

5 high quality grass football pitches one of which is floodlight. We host training for Scottish Premier League side St Johnstone and Forth Valley Football Academy. Further facilities enjoyed include a 3G pitch and state of the art strength and conditioning suites which is home to the sportscotland Institute of Sport, with 10 Olympic lifting platforms. We are 1st in Scotland and 2nd in the UK for sports facilities (The International Student Barometer (ISB) 2016).

Scholarship footballers represent the University in the Scottish Women's Premier League and the Scottish Cup, against the likes of Glasgow City, Hibernian, Celtic and Rangers, and in British Universities Premier League North, British Universities Championships and Scottish universities competitions. Stirling students have represented Scotland at A Squad level and Great Britain at the World University Games.

Selection criteria

To be considered for a football scholarship, you must:

  1.  Hold - or be in the process of applying for - a place on an undergraduate or postgraduate degree course at the University of Stirling.
  2. Have junior or senior international honours or in transition between junior and senior competition with SWPL or equivalent experience.
  3. Take pride in working hard to improve your game.

Professor Gordon Mackay invented the revolutionary Internal Brace, the most significant advance in the treatment of ligaments and tendons in a generation. The Mackay Clinic kindly sponsors football scholarships. Gordon takes a keen interest in the programme and actively joins in with training sessions. Additionally Gordon has provided consultancy services for injured players, including one successful ACL surgery and rehabilitation.

RJM Sports provide high quality clothing and equipment for the women’s football programme.

Complete the  ISSP Application Form before the end of February for a September start. Scholarships are offered, subject to achieving relevant academic entry requirements before the end of June.

Winning Students scholarships
