Enhancing social science graduate employability: online professional profiles

Here at the University of Stirling the Social Work, Housing, Dementia and Social Policy Programmes have teamed up to try and equip our students to utilise the work of social media to create online profiles that will help enhance their networking and employability.

Online networking and profile skills are now a key of graduate employability skill and we are conducting a pilot programme to enhance these skills and help students develop their careers and/transition into the workplace.

What is the role of employers??

Professionalism on Social Media or POSM is a new online optional module designed for students on professional programmes at the University of Stirling. Employers are going to be involved in looking at the professional online profiles that our students develop.

What is involved?

Students will be asked to create online profiles. Employers will be asked to give and share their views at an event on 7th June 2016 to help feed back to students.

Why should I participate in POSM?

The feedback and information gained through this pilot will provide learning points that help employers advise their own staff in the challenging field of online media.  Overall, this will contribute to the professionalisation of the sectors involved.

It would be a very big benefit to our students to receive employer feedback on the importance of their online profile in their careers and hear about the role of social media in today’s labour market.
