Postgraduate Cost of Living

The cost of living in Stirling is considered to be one of the lowest in the UK and this is reflected in the table below.

These figures are based on postgraduate students attending the University of Stirling for a total of 12 months and who are living away from home. Students on a nine month Diploma course will find that their expenditure is proportionally less.

International students and married students should be aware that they will have additional costs (see below).

Students should be aware that these costs are approximate and that it is possible to spend less or more than the amount shown.

International students

If you are an international student you may have additional costs and need to be aware that you may spend more on items such as warm clothes and on telephone calls. You should also factor in the following costs: cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery, travel within the UK, return shipping and travel costs back to your home country.

Married students

Accommodation for married students is limited so please contact Residential Services to find out about the availability of family flats for the next academic session. Prices of family flats range from £4,845-£6,834 depending on the number of bedrooms needed.

Married students should budget approximately an additional £4,500 for a spouse and a further £3,000 for each child.

NB: Please be aware that these figures are an estimate of costs and based on average prices for the academic year 2009/10. Costs are likely to rise with inflation each year (approximately 2 - 3%) so please take this into account.
