On Wednesday 8 February Stirling welcomed Stirling Management School Honorary Professor Russell Napier to campus where he gave his annual guest lecture, titled “Twenty One Lessons For Investors From Financial History, For The Way We Live Now”.

Russell, a Fellow of the CFA Society of the UK, has worked in the investment industry for over 30 years, has authored two books about financial history, and in 2001 with Dr Kevin Campbell and Joanne Fairbrother of Stirling Management School established the Karen Napier Scholarships on the MSc Investment Analysis course. To date, 56 MSc Investment Analysis students from around the world have benefitted from a scholarship and this year’s Scholar, Halima Wuraola Olaiya from Nigeria, met Russell for the annual Scholar’s lunch which took place before the lecture.

Joining Halima and Russell were four other scholars from the Abaarso School of Science and Technology in Somaliland, who are supported by a new scholarship funded by the Karen Napier Charity, which started in 2021 and has so far produced three graduates. Mick and Gillian Brewis who generously contribute to the Somaliland Scholarship were also present, and Dr Kevin Campbell said:

“We are delighted that the Karen Napier Charity is now supporting scholars from Somaliland. The MSc Investment Analysis scholarships have helped to transform the lives of many students and I am sure that under Russell’s leadership the Somaliland Scholarships will be equally successful and transformative.”
