He sits on the board of a range of companies from community interest to neobanking, and has been involved in fintech start-ups, including establishing a capital markets institution for the UK Government. He has been teaching on the ‘Risk management in Banking’ module at SMS since March.

Mr Krebsz said: "I am honoured to have been appointed to the world-class University of Stirling, and delighted to be working closely with SMS.

“Risk management and artificial intelligence ethics rely heavily on an exchange of innovative thinking, and bridging the gap between theory and professional practice will be crucial to future-proofing our students' success.”

Professor Kevin Grant, Dean of SMS, said: “Markus brings expertise and a strategic overview of risk management, to strengthen our capability and knowledge in this dynamic area.

“With his experience of participatory policy research and advisory, he will also be able to support SMS in our mission to further increase the economic and social impact of our work.”

SMS is rated among the top 10 Universities in the UK for Economics, Marketing and Human Resource Management, and the top 5 in Scotland for Business Studies, Accounting and Finance and overall research impact.
