Aquatic Animal Reproduction and Genetics

This topic gives you the opportunity to learn about broodstock management, spawning, egg quality and gender control using a series of lectures and practical sessions. The application of genetic manipulation in aquaculture includes hybridisation, sex reversal, quantitative genetics and cryopreservation. The topic covers a number of the most commercially important species such as salmon, rainbow trout, cod and halibut. There is strong emphasis on hatchery processes including larval rearing, hatchery operation, design and management.
