Stirling MSc Investment Analysis Team Reach UK Final of CFA Institute Research Challenge

14 March 2017

A team of five students from Stirling Management School’s MSc in Investment Analysis, a Program Partner of the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Institute, have become the ninth Stirling University team in ten years to win a place in the UK Final of the prestigious CFA Institute Research Challenge.   Stirling will compete against teams from Cranfield University, King’s College London and the University of Exeter at the Final in London on the 22nd March 2017.

The competition, considered the “investment Olympics” for university students, requires participants to assume the role of investment analysts and produce a report on a publicly traded company with a buy, hold or sell recommendation. Seventeen UK Universities affiliated to CFA Institute participated in the initial round of the competition. After anonymous grading by investment professionals, the high marks earned by the Stirling team secured them a place in the UK Final.  The team was mentored for the tenth successive year by Jim Campbell, a 1992 graduate of Stirling’s Investment Analysis programme and a consultant with Aviva Life.

Commenting on this latest achievement for the Stirling MSc in Investment Analysis, Director Dr Kevin Campbell said:

“The achievements of The University of Stirling teams over the past decade reflects the excellent quality of our teaching and the high calibre of students that are attracted to study here. Stirling has had  a team reach the local final more times than any other UK University. The current team deserve immense credit for researching and writing an equity research report that was judged to demonstrate an excellent understanding of fundamental company analysis. The global investment profession will be well served in the future by Stirling’s graduates.”

The 2017 Stirling team are Jakob Siegert (Germany), Awatif Mustafa (Palestine), Guillaume Gregoire (Belgium), Adzahemen Stella Vajime (Nigeria) and Marco Negrelli (Italy).
