Aims:

The module aims to develop increased levels of self-awareness which will help students better articulate their work-related skills and competencies to graduate recruiters, as well as make more conscious decisions in relation to their future career progression.

Objectives:

The School’s undergraduate programmes offer students numerous opportunities to develop appropriate work-related skills at every stage of their studies.  The Professional Development and Practice module in Semester 8 will draw these aspects together in order to better prepare students for entering the workplace.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the module, students will have:

  • an understanding of the relevance of personal transferable skills within the context of the graduate recruitment market;
  • some understanding of the concept of continuous or life-long learning in general and/or its relationship to any relevant Professional Development in their area of preferred/planned employment;
  • increased levels of self-awareness, recognising key personal motivating factors and their importance in sustaining a high level of motivation in the workplace;
  • an understanding of the issues impacting the business environment of their preferred chosen area(s) of employment through interaction with guest speakers from industry who will share their experiences with students;
  • set personal and professional goals in relation to career planning and future career progression.
