Your Responsibilities

"Every member of staff has a role to play in delivering our strategic plan ...everyone has a responsibility to create the environment in which we can all flourish and succeed" University Strategic Plan

As a University that is committed to creating an environment of lifelong learning, the University recognises the need to invest in relevant development opportunities that provide employees with the skills, knowledge and competencies they need to learn and develop in their career and role. The University has an ambitious strategic plan and a commitment to, and investment in, the personal and professional development of employees is integral to the delivery of that plan.

The OD team is committed to providing all employees with learning and development opportunities that support their professional and personal development. Working in partnership with line managers, the OD team will make sure where practically and reasonably possible learning and development needs and aspirations are met. However learning is an active process. The OD team believe that the responsibility for learning is a shared responsibility, with the member of staff being active and taking ownership of their own development. Therefore there are a number of staff learning responsibilities that have been outlined below.

OD events and programmes are free of charge to University of Stirling staff.  Booking a place on an event is perceived as your agreement to attend that event in its entirety.  If you find you are unable to attend the event, it is expected that you will cancel your booking at the earliest possible time (giving a minimum of fourteen days notice unless exceptional circumstances occur).

  • Upon booking your place, don't forget to update your diary to protect the time.
  • A joining email that will provide core event information (such as location, timing, trainer/facilitator name and any other relevant information) will be sent two weeks prior to the date of the event.
  • If an event is fully booked, please email to be added to the waiting list and you will be notified if a place becomes available.
  • If you are unable to attend an event in its entirety (i.e. late arrival, early departure, and period of absence during workshop) please make a note of this when completing the booking form. If you have already completed the booking form, please email with the absence details.

Bookings are granted on the basis that you:

  1. Agree to attend (see principles)
  2. Agree to complete feedback form after event
  3. Have sought and gained permission from your line manager/supervisor to attend
The OD team takes no responsibility for situations arising should you not have requested this permission beforehand.

Should you need to cancel a booking, please inform a member of the OD team as soon as possible. Please refer to the Non-Attendance and Late Cancellations Guidance for further information which can be accessed by clicking here. As a member of staff who attends OD events, or a line manager who supports their staff to attend OD events, please ensure you are familiar with this guidance.

It is a requirement that event participants sign the Attendance Record. If you do not complete the register your attendance status will be set to non-attendance.

  • Event venues sometimes change from those originally advertised. If a venue is changed you will receive notification of this along with the new venue details via email. If you are unsure of a venue location, please contact the OD team.
  • If event numbers are too low for the event to be feasible to run, we will endeavour to give participants as much notice as possible.

Following the event you will receive an email asking for you to complete an online feedback form. This feedback is essential to enable us to tailor events and completion of this is valuable to shape future events.

Photographs may be taken occasionally during events. These photos may be used on the OD website and or for publicity materials. If for any reason you are uncomfortable with having your photograph taken and/or with the photographs being used for marketing purposes, please contact the OD team who will inform the facilitator when you arrive at the event.
