6.45PM - 7.45PM
Speaker: John Goodwin, Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer, Lego
Venue: Logie Lecture Theatre, University of Stirling, Stirling, FK9 4LA
Join us on Monday 13 March for the third lecture in our Innovation and Excellence series marking the University's fiftieth year.
In 2015 Lego was hailed the world’s most powerful brand. From humble beginnings the company has grown from strength to strength since the owners patented the little plastic brick in 1958. In the 1960’s they introduced Duplo and Legoland parks, and every year launched new themed Lego bricks to create everything from dinosaurs to space stations. In 1999 Lego was named “product of the century” by Fortune Magazine. But the company also reported significant losses competing against new entrants such as Xbox and Playstation before they too joined the video game market. Film and TV tie-ins helped – and The Lego Movie, released by Warner Bros. in 2014 helped propel the company to the top brand spot.
The lecture will be delivered by John Goodwin, Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer, Lego. He joined Lego in 2012 following over two decades of international experience at Proctor & Gamble. Ross Tuffee, representing the local business community, will give the vote of thanks. Ross is Managing Director and co-founder of Dogfi.sh Mobile, a digital mobile company who recently won the contract to create a new Lego App.
This event is open to all and free to attend but places should be booked in advance online here.
