6.00PM - 7.00PM
Venue: Pathfoot building, University of Stirling
The University of Stirling is very pleased to announce that Mr Jun Arima, Director General of JETRO London, will give the Opening Talk at Japanese Week 2014 on "The Japanese economy - Abenomics and energy policy challenges".
The word “Abenomics” has become worldly known since the beginning of 2013. After two decades of deflation, Japan is shooting “three arrows”, namely, bold monetary policy, flexible fiscal policy and growth strategy. The impact of these policies is impressive resulting in yen depreciation, stock bounce and positive growth during four consecutive quarters. However, in order to cement this positive momentum, bold implementation of the third arrow, Growth Strategy is crucial. In this presentation, Mr. Arima will present major elements of Japan’s Growth Strategy and their progress. He will also present the current situation of Japan’s energy policy facing multiple challenges in terms of energy supply security, economic efficiency and climate change mitigation.
Guests are invited to join us after the lecture for a drinks reception and performance of taiko drumming by the Dojo Performance Team. Sushi will be served at the drinks reception, courtesy of the Consulate General of Japan in Edinburgh.
The University also thanks the The Japan Society of Scotland, Scotland, The Japan Scotland Association, Japan, The Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation and The Japan Society of the UK for their generous support.
This lecture is part of the University of Stirling's Japanese Week and all events are open to staff, students and members of the public. Please visit our website for details of other events.
