Here Be Dragons: Mapping Our National Identity

Mike Parker geography talk image

7.30PM - 9.00PM
Speaker: Mike Parker

Venue: Logie Lecture Theatre, University of Stirling, FK9 4LA

In this lively illustrated talk, author and broadcaster Mike Parker looks at the power of maps to shape our image of the world, especially in forming ideas of national identity.  Maps are beautiful and informative, but are always also politically loaded, as Mike will demonstrate in a tour that looks especially at Scotland and the UK.

Mike Parker is the author of Map Addict and presenter of BBC Radio 4’s On the Map series. His obsession with maps began from an early age with his compulsion to explore, to dig deep into the layers of history and identity.

Admission £10.00 (payable on the night), free for RSGS members, students and under 18s.

This event is one in a series of public talks given by Inspiring People, organised by the Royal Scottish Geographical Society and the Environmental Geography department, University of Stirling (@UoS_EnvGeog), in partnership with Tiso: the outdoor retail specialist.
