Autumn Art lecture: ‘Future-proof’ - A European gaze at new traditions & past inventions in China

11 Nov ‘15

5.00PM - 6.00PM

Venue: Pathfoot Lecture Theatre, Pathfoot Building, University of Stirling

In the past few years Kate Downie has been an artist-in-residence both in the megacity of Beijing and the remote mountain village of XuCun in Shangsi Province. In this year’s autumn lecture she will share with the audience her experience of the cultural contrast with both these environments, as well as sharing her fascination with the changing traditions of ink painting. Offering a fresh glimpse of the burgeoning contemporary art scene which develops apace, she will examine the huge social and environmental developments of China now with reference to both western influences and its own tumultuous political past.
