The taught postgraduate programmes offer professional development opportunities.
The School offers a postgraduate programme in Professional Enquiry with a range of curricular pathways, including: Advance Practice; Curriculum Studies;Equality and Diversity; Outdoor Learning and Environmental Education and Supporting Professional Growth.
For Further Education and Adult Education the School offers Teaching Qualifications for both FE and AE. The qualifications are designed to meet the needs of the contemporary Scottish FE and AE sectors, by offering a flexible programme for both pre and in-service students. The MSc Professional Learning and Leadership course is a natural progression from the TQFE and TQAE qualifications.
The School offers an MSc programme in Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages with a number of curricular pathways including: Applied Linguistics; Computer Assisted Language Learning. The School also offers a range of non HE accredited English language courses, including General English, IELTS Preparation, Pre-sessional English and an English Language Summer School. In association with these programmes.
The MSc in Educational Leadership is a work-based Master’s course which offers a number of pathways for aspiring school leaders and managers to gain a Master’s degree which contributes to the development of their knowledge and understanding, allowing them to articulate informed strategic vision, values and aims in relation to professional practice.
The MSc in Educational Leadership (with SQH) course has at its heart the Scottish Qualification of Headship (SQH). The SQH is accredited by the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) and is delivered in partnership with the Western Consortium. It is a work-based Master’s course, which incorporates a professional and academic award.

This innovative course prepares you for doctoral studies in Education through taught modules and a dissertation. You learn the skills of research, from conception, through to design, methodology and data collection, to analysis, interpretation and dissemination. Active researchers teach you in an Institute at the forefront of educational research. You will be closely involved with the Institute’s research activity and have expert guidance while writing your dissertation.
