Part-time and vacation work in the UK

Finding part-time work either while you study or during the vacation periods can be difficult.  There is often a lot of competition for roles that can be combined with studying.  It is important that you work hard at finding and applying for roles that interest you.  Here are our top tips for success:

  1. Make sure you register and set up your TARGETconnect profile, local employers advertise their vacancies here.  Ensure you set your preferences to make sure you only get informed about the right jobs for you.

  2. Check local newspapers such as the Stirling Observer and Falkirk Herald.

  3. Be proactive - ask in local shops, bars, restaurants etc.  Have your CV ready to hand in - it is a good idea to have several versions of your CV handy for each type of role.

  4. Visit local employment agencies.  You can find a list on www.yell.com

We recommend that you do not work more than 16 hours a week during term time.

International Students

If you are an international student, there may be some restrictions on your right to work in the UK whilst studying, although most students are eligible to work.  You can find out more details in the International Student section of our website, or by speaking to the International Student Adviser.
