The redevelopment will take place over three years, starting in the summer of 2012. Each phase should be complete prior to the start of the following academic session and new accommodation will come on line at the end of each phase.

Phase I

Phase I starts in the summer of 2012, when new accommodation will be developed on the site of the existing garages adjacent Polwarth House and at Alexander Court.

Phase II

Phase II, in 2013/14, will begin with the demolition of Murray Hall and the construction of new accommodation on the site.

Phase III

Phase III takes place in 2014/15, when AK Davidson Hall will be demolished, new accommodation will be built there and, finally, Geddes Court will be demolished.

As far as possible, the University will maintain residential capacity for students throughout the entire project period.

19 January 2012: planning application submitted to Stirling Council

The University lodged a planning application for the residences project with Stirling Council on 19 January 2012. To see the application, and associated drawings and documents, on the Stirling Council website, click here.

January 2012: Polwarth garages demolished

The garages to the rear of Polwarth House were demolished in January 2012. The demolition marks the beginning of the redevelopment of the University’s student accommodation.

The garages have been demolished in advance of the initial construction work planned to commence in the late summer to minimise disturbance to campus life, including wildlife.

Over the coming weeks, a small number of trees which would be affected by the construction, or by the diversion of underground services, will be pruned or removed. The timing of this work has been carefully planned to ensure that the breeding seasons of wildlife are not disrupted.

19 April 2012: planning application approved by Stirling Council

The redevelopment of student residential accommodation received planning consent from Stirling Council on 19 April. More information.
