The Stirling Fund grant awarded to the Clansmen American football team was for the purchase of new American football helmets. Many of their older helmets concussion protection certification had expired, which meant that this award was essential in enabling the club to provide the necessary safety to the Clansmen's ever increasing roster of players, participating in the sport.
The 39 new helmets purchased are awaiting the 2015 season. Thanks to advances in technology, the new helmets have the highest 5-star concussion protection rating. They will therefore ensure that the Clansmen are able to provide the very best protection to their players for the next three years, as they continue to play at the pinnacle of the sport in the UK.
This award has helped ensure that the University of Stirling not only remains the top American football programme in the nation but also the safest one too.
