Liam McCabe became the Director of Finance of the University of Stirling in April 2009.  He previously worked at Queen Margaret University, from April 2004 to March 2009 during which period that institution secured University title and moved to its new campus in Musselburgh. That involved Liam in a series of complex capital transactions including those associated with an 800 bedroom residences development via a third party finance route.  Prior to that and after five years with KPMG in Edinburgh and Manchester Liam was with the Scottish Funding Councils for 10 years where latterly he was Director of Governance and Management: Appraisal and Policy.  Liam is active in the higher education sector and in recent years was treasurer of the British Universities Finance Directors Group (BUFDG) standing down after completing two terms in this role during which time he overhauled BUFDG’s finances.  Liam has also served in various national working groups on costing and pricing and was a member of the Universities Scotland expert group that liaised with Audit Scotland in the latter’s review of estate management. Liam has a degree in accounting from the University of Stirling and became a member of CIPFA in 1986.  He is a member of CIPFA’s Further and Higher Education Panel and a Fellow of the Royal Society for Arts (FRSA).
